2022 Gender Barriers Roundtable

Beyond the bias: Unmasking the barriers

In a bid to tackle youth unemployment in Nigeria, Jobberman Nigeria partnered with the MasterCard Foundation. The partnership aims to train 5 million young Nigerians (with 70% focus on women) and enabling 3 million of them to secure dignified and fulfilling work by 2025. Our project is currently being implemented in 3 focus states (Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna) and across 3 focus sectors (Agriculture, Digital and Creative).

We recently launched a study themed ‘Gender Barriers in Nigeria’s Labour Market’ to understand the labour market realities (the trends, opportunities and challenges) of women in Nigeria. We would like to discuss the findings from this study, advance policy making to support women’s transition into the world of work and support the role of stakeholders in achieving a gender balance in Nigeria’s labor force and employed population

At this event we will:

● Discuss the barriers that affect women’s participation, and the maximization of their economic potential in Nigeria’s Labour market.
● Highlight the emerging insights from our Gender Barriers Research to inform key policy interventions and programming initiatives.
● Highlight and document the opportunities, challenges and trends within formal and informal sectors of Nigeria’s Labour Market and what this means for jobs and skills as it concerns women.
● Discuss ideas and recommendations for improving women’s employment and economic outcomes.(working conditions, organizational policies, work structure, design of work tools, etc.)
● Foster collaboration for joint action across public and private sector stakeholders to promote Gender parity in families, organizations and the society at large; obtaining input on policies and strategies useful for enhancing women’ s economic outcomes in Nigeria’s labour market.
