DR. GEORGE NWANGWU

Dr. George Nwangwu has over two decades of experience as a lawyer spanning various aspects of legal practice and academia in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He is also a chartered accountant, financial consultant, and public policy professional. He is one of the leading experts on project finance law and private sector led finance for infrastructure in Africa and his research in this area has been cited widely. As an international consultant, his clients include international and local investors, international financial institutions, multilateral institutions, bank, and non-bank financial institutions.  

Dr. Nwangwu has been the managing partner of Ratio Legal Practitioners in Nigeria, a partner in Christ Church Solicitors UK and managing partner for Ratio Consulting Limited. He has taught law at the Faculty of Law University of Lagos Nigeria and the University of London (external program). Dr. Nwangwu has participated in the drafting and implementation of several of the existing statutes and regulations at the federal level as well as for some of the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  

Dr. Nwangwu was a DFID/World Bank funded consultant with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) where he held the following posts: Environmental Legal Adviser, Infrastructure Legal Adviser, Special Assistant to the Director General of the BPE on legal and strategy issues and finally Head of the Strategy and Multilateral Relations Department. He was PPP Project Coordinator and Head of the PPP Division, Federal Ministry of Finance. He was also a special adviser to the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Hon. Minister of Finance on PPPs and infrastructure finance.  

To date Dr. Nwangwu has led transaction teams that have participated in the delivery of over100 privatization/ PPP transactions worth over USD 20 billion, working either on the side of the public sector or private sector in Nigeria. He is currently a research fellow at the Department of Mercantile Law, Stellenbosch University as well as an Honorary Senior Research Associate in the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management, University College London; He is also founder and Director General of the Centre for Law and Business, Abuja.  

Dr. Nwangwu is an active social entrepreneur responsible for some of the major utility enterprises in Nigeria. For example, one of these enterprises currently generates about 10 percent of the total electric power used in Nigeria.
