FURERA ISMA JUMARE
Director General, Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency

Furera Isma Jumare is the Director General of the Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency (InvestJigawa). She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Botany and three Master’s degrees – M.Sc. Crop Physiology and M.Sc. Rural Development from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, and M.A. International Development Management from University of Manchester for which she was awarded the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.   

Before going into private business, Furera had worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria for 21 years in the Development Finance and Other Financial Institutions Departments. She retired from the CBN in 2009 to found her consulting firm, Micro Development Consulting Limited, where she led the firm’s research, project management and capacity development activities.  

Furera Jumare has previously served as Member Kaduna State Council on Agriculture, Member Editorial Board of Leadership Newspaper and Independent Consultant with then DFID’s ENABLE2 programme. She was also an Independent Director on the Board of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. from 2017 until her appointment as Director General of InvestJigawa in September 2020.  

She is currently a Member of the Board of Northern Nigeria Renewable Energy Company Limited, a company owned by Nigeria’s nineteen northern states, a Member of the Institute of Directors, a Member of Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and a Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants. 

In March 2022 Furera was featured as one of 50 inspiring Nigerian women by Business Day Newspaper.
